Biblical giving starts by giving yourself to God.

Jesus loves you and gave everything for you. (1 Cor. 6:20; 1 Pet. 1:19) He gave His life for you, and now He wants you to give your life to Him. (Rom. 12:1) In Paul's second letter to the church in Corinth, he tells them about the work that God was doing in the lives of the believers in Macedonia. They gave sacrificially to Paul, but he notes most importantly that before they gave anything, they gave themselves to Jesus first. (2 Cor. 8:5)

Biblical giving shows our surrender to God.

As Jesus is having a discussion about priorities, He tells us that we cannot serve our earthly treasures and God at the same time. (Matt. 6:24) And He lets us know that what we spend our money on is a good indicator of what controls our hearts. (Matt. 6:21) If we love God, then we are going to give in a way that pleases Him.
