The Bible has a lot to say about hell. There are four words in Hebrew and Greek that are translated hell in our English Bible. Each one has a different connotation and gives us some information about this place. When we are aware of the word that is used, we can have a clearer understanding of this place called hell.
Hell is described as a place of torments. A place of punishment. But what causes someone to go to this place and how long do they have to stay there? Jesus gives some insight of what this place of punishment is like as He tells the story of someone who went there.
The Bible tells us that God doesn't want anyone to have to pay for their own sins. That is why He sent His Son to die. We can either accept His payment, or we can pay for our sins ourselves. If we end up in that place of punishment, it is because we didn't accept the payment that has been made for us.
