Jesus tells us that if we are going to be a follower of His, then we must to love Him more than we love anyone else. And we are to love Jesus so much more than we love anyone else that there is to be no comparison between to two.
The next thing that Jesus tells us that we must do if we are going to be a follower of His, is that we must take up our cross. But what does that mean? Should we really nail ourselves to crosses in order to follow Jesus, or does He have something else in mind?
If we are going to a genuine follower of Jesus we can't just make Him a part of our life, but we must give Him every part of our life. He wants us to surrender everything that we have to His control, holding nothing back. Is there a part of your life that you are holding back from Him?
The choice to follow Jesus is not a casual decision. Following Jesus means that we are going to choose to love Him more than anyone else, that we are going to take up our cross, and that we are going to surrender everything to Him. He wants us to understand the cost of following Him.
