When our priorities don't line up with God's priorities, we decommission ourselves. Jesus' first priority was the lost souls of men. The whole reason that He came to this earth in the first place was to seek and to save the lost. So often, our priorities are on everthing but those who don't know Jesus.
When we don't fully understand the Gospel, we decommission ourselves. There are a lot of people that have really good intentions. They love people and long to meet their needs. And we should, but if we meet someone's physical and emotional needs and yet fail to meet their spiritual need, we have failed.
When we concentrate on minor things, we decommission ourselves. Parking places, seats, and even the color of carpets can sidetrack us from what is really important, and that is the people. We place a higher value on things that don't really matter. We need to learn to love people the way that Jesus loves them.
When we are lifted up with pride, we decommission ourselves. Just before He went back to heaven, Jesus gave His followers the Great Commission. It was not a suggestion, but a command. We often exalt ourselves above Jesus, and decide that we aren't going to do the work that He has given us to do.
